This stitch is not difficult, but it is not a stitch you would use for a quickie project. It's beautiful, for blankets and scarves, but can require a dedication of time to complete.

Instructions

    Beginning Feather Stitch:
  1. (row 1) Start with a chainless foundation of half double crochet.
  2. (row 2) Next row: *hdc, ch 1* across the foundation row.
  3. (row 3) Yarn over, insert hook into last ch-1 sp of previous row,
  4. yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on the hook (3 loops on hook),
  5. yarn over, insert hook into ch-1 space one row below or skipped stitch just worked,
  6. yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on the hook (5 loops on hook),
  7. yarn over, insert hook in next ch-1 sp, yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on the hook,
  8. yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook.

  9. Feather Stitch:
  10. (row 4 and subsequent rows) Yarn over, insert hook into same ch-1 sp as last feather,
  11. yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on hook (3 loops on hook),
  12. yarn over, insert hook into skipped st or ch-1 sp one row below same sp,
  13. yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on hook (5 loops on hook)
  14. yarn over, insert hook in next ch-1 sp,
  15. yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on the hook,
  16. yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook.
