Abbreviation

EDC: Extended Double Crochet: The Extended Double Crochet Stitch is a variation of the Double Crochet, but we add an additional step in the process of making the Double Crochet that gives more height to the stitch, and a different texture.

Step 1: Yarn over hook.
Step 2: Insert hook from front to back through stitch to be worked.
Step 3: Yarn over hook.
Step 4: Draw loop through fabric.
Step 5: Yarn over and draw through first loop only, forming a chain stitch.
Step 6: Yarn over and draw through two loops on hook.
Step 7: Yarn over and draw through remaining two loops on hook.

Instructions

    Foundation Chain: Multiples of 4.
  1. Row 1: DC in 3rd CH from hook, DC in next CH, *CH1, skip 1 CH, 1DC in EA of next 3CH. Continue across from * to the end of the row.
  2. Row 2: Ch3, 1DC in EA of next 2DC, *CH1, skip CH, 1DC in EA of next 3DC. Continue across from * to the end of the row.
  3. Row 3: CH 4, this will count as the first DC, CH 1, Sk the next DC, DC in the next DC, work an extended DC below the 2 previous CH 1 spaces. DC in the next DC. *CH 1, Sk the next DC, DC in the next DC, work an extended DC below the 2 previous CH 1 spaces. DC in the next DC. Continue across from * for width of pattern.
  4. Row 4: Ch4, this will count as the first DC, 1DC in EA of the next 3DC, *CH1, 1DC in EA of the next 3DC. Continue across from * to last rep, DC into 3rd ch in turn ch, turn.
  5. Row 5: Ch3, work an extended DC below the 2 previous CH 1 spaces, 1 DC in next DC, *CH1, skip the DC, DC in the next DC. Work an extended DC below the 2 previous CH1 spaces, 1DC in the next DC. Continue across from * to last rep, DC into 3rd ch in turn ch, turn.
  6. Row 6: Ch3, 1DC in EA of next 2DC, *CH1, skip CH, 1DC in EA of next 3DC. Continue across from * to end of row.
Repeat rows 3-6 until you have reached your desired length.
