- Size K/6.5mm Crochet Hook
- Faux Fur Pom Pom
Abbreviations, Notes and Tips:
- mhdc(s): modified half double crochet(s)
Modified half double crochet (mhdc): insert hook into the same stitch of the last completed stitch, pull up a loop, yo and insert hook into the next stitch pull up a loop, yo and pull through all four loops on the hook. - mhdc2tog: modified half double crochet 2 together
Modified half double crochet 2 together (mhdc2tog): Insert hook into the NEXT stitch, pull up a loop, yo and insert hook into the next stitch pull up a loop, yo and pull through all four loops on the hook. - The hat is started by working the band first. Using the sizes in the ear warmer chart, the hat band can easily be adjusted for a different size head by changing the number of rows worked.
- The half double crochet stitches of the brim are worked entirely up through the 3rd loop of the half double crochets in the row below.
- After the brim is joined, a sc round is worked around the entire brim. Although 1 sc is worked in every row in the band, adding an extra single crochet as you start and then finish the round will leave you with 2 more single crochets than rows. (ex: 41 rows and 43 scs.) The number of single crochets does not need to be precise as long as the band is not pulled out of shape.
- The hat is also worked with the right side facing in. When you are finished, youll want to turn it inside out before adding the pom pom.
- With the variegated yarn, the join of each round is almost invisible, but it does stand out more with a solid colored yarn. Instead of starting with a hdc, you could try a mhdc by pulling up a loop through the last stitch of the previous round.
