Skill Level: beginner
Finished Size: Bottom (forehead) circumference: 16 (18, 20, 22) inches Adjust for 23"
To fit sizes: chile (teen, adult small, adult meduim)
Materials:
- Yarn: Cascade Yarns Eco + [100% Peruvian Wool; 478 yards; 250 grams; Aran weight], Color #0958. 1 skein for each size. If you wish to make substitutions, look for a heavy worsted or aran weight yarn. Yarns containing at least a 50% wool or acrylic content will work best for hats.
- Crochet Hook: US H/5mm, US J/3mm hook; adjust hook sizes as necessary to achieve gauge listed below.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends.
- 16 slip stitches and 32 rounds = 4 square inches using 5mm (H) hook.
- 14 half double crochet and 12 rounds = 4 square inches using 6mm (J) hook.
- Stitch gauge is more important than row gauge for this project.
- * = a repeat in pattern
- CC = coordinating color yarn
- ch = chain
- hdc = half double crochet
- MC = main color yarn
- rep = repeat
- rnd = round
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- sp = space
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- tbl = through back loop
- tog = together
- Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes within parenthesis. If only one number appears it apples to all sizes.
- When slipping stitches for Round 2 of Forehead Section make sure to insert hook through only the back loop of the stitch you are working through. Doing this is what gives the woven appearance of the stitch.
- The chain stitch at the beginning of every round counts as the first single of half double crochet for that round. Remember this when counting stitches at the end of the round.
- The final decrease round of every size skips the initial chain stitch. This was done intentionally.
