Bullion Stitch Placemat

Materials:

Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter or any worsted weight cotton.
Crochet Hook: H/8-5.00mm

Gauge: 2.5? over 8 sc sts.
Finished Size: 10?x16?

Abbreviations: CA = Color A
CB = Color B
Bs = Bullion Stitch
Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
Hk = Hook
Lp/Lps = Loop/Loops
Rep = Repeat
Sc = Single Crochet
Sk = Skip
Sl St = Slip Stitch
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
Stbs = Standing Bullion Stitch
Stsc = Standing Single Crochet
YO = Yarn Over

Notes & Special Stitch Instructions:

Bullion Stitch (Bs): *YO 6 times, insert hk into designated st, yo and pull through (8 lps on hk), yo and pull through all lps on hk, yo and pull through to close stitch. Bullion Stitch Tutorial
Standing Bullion Stitch (Stbs): Place Slip Knot on hook, and rep from * on Bs.
Standing Single Crochet (Stsc): Place Slip Knot on hook and finish the sc as normal

When working into the bullion stitches, work 1 sc into the bullion stitch and 1 sc into ch-1.
Use tight sl st join to finish each round.
Fasten Off after each color is finished.
For a Solid Color: Omit the standing crochet stitches if working in a solid color. Instead of the Stbs, I pulled up a long ch (about 1?) at the beginning of each bullion stitch round. Instead of the Stsc, I made a ch-1 and worked a single crochet in the same chain as join.

Pattern Instructions:

Rnd 1: With CA, ch 24, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 21 chs, 3 sc in last ch. Working on opposite side of starting chains, sc in free lps of next 21 chs, 2 sc in last ch; join with sl st in first sc. (48 sts)

Rnd 2: With CB, work a stbs in same st as join, work another 2 bs in same st, *[sk next st, bs in next st] 10 times*, [sk next st, work 3 bs in corner st] twice; rep from * to *; sk next st, work 3 bs in corner st, sk last st; join with sl st in first bs. (32 sts)

Rnd 3: With CA, work stsc in same st as join, counting the ch-1�s as a st (now and throughout), sc in next st, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 25 sts, 3 sc in next st*, sc in next 5 sts; rep from * to * once, then sc in last 3 sts; join with sl st in first sc. (72 sts)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and in next 2 sts, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 27 sts, 3 sc in next st*, sc in next 7 sts; rep from * to * once, then sc in last 4 sts; join with sl st in first sc. (80 sts)

Rnd 5: With CB, work a stbs in same st as join, sk next st, bs in next st, *sk next st, work 3 bs in corner st, [sk next st, bs in next st] 14 times; sk next st, 3 bs in corner st*; [sk next st, bs in next st] 4 times; rep from * to * once, [sk next st, bs in next st] 2 times, sk last st; join with sl st in first bs. (48 bs)

Rnd 6: With CA, stsc in same st as join, sc in next 5 sts, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 33 sts, 3 sc in next st*, sc in next 13 sts; rep from * to * once, then sc in last 7 sts; join with sl st in first sc. (104 sts)

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and in next 6 sts, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 35 sts, 3 sc in next st*, sc in next 15 sts; rep from * to * once, then sc in last 8 sts; join with sl st in first sc. (112 sts)

Rnd 8: With CB, work a stbs in same st as join, [sk next st, bs in next st] 3 times, *sk next st, work 3 bs in corner st, [sk next st, bs in next st] 18 times, sk next st, work 3 bs in corner st*, [sk next st, bs in next st] 8 times; rep from * to *; [sk next st, bs in next st] 4 times; join with sl st in first bs. (64 bs)

Rnd 9: With CA, stsc in same st as join, sc in next 9 sts, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 41 sts, 3 sc in next st*, sc in next 21 sts; rep from * to * once, then sc in last 11 sts; join with sl st in first sc. (136 sts)

Rnd 10: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and in next 10 sts, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 43 sts, 3 sc in next st*, sc in next 23 sts; rep from * to * once, then sc in last 12 sts; join with sl st in first sc. (144 sts)

Rnd 11: With CB, work a stbs in same st as join, [sk next st, bs in next st] 5 times, *sk next st, work 3 bs in corner st, [sk next st, bs in next st] 22 times, sk next st, work 3 bs in corner st*, [sk next st, bs in next st] 12 times; rep from * to *; [sk next st, bs in next st] 6 times; join with sl st in first bs. (80 bs)

Rnd 12: With CA, stsc in same st as join, sc in next 13 sts, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 49 sts, 3 sc in next st*, sc in next 29 sts; rep from * to * once, then sc in last 15 sts; join with sl st to first sc. (168 sts)

Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and in next 14 sts, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 51 sts, 3 sc in next st*, sc in next 31 sts; rep from * to * once, then sc in last 16 sts; join with sl st to first sc. (176 sts) FO.
